Does Your SharePoint Resume Reflect Your Skillsets?

If Only Resume Writing was Easy As Writing on a T-Shirt

The SharePoint Resume is a document that offers different perspectives when viewed through the lens of the recruiter vs. technical professionals which I have outlined below.

Recruiter Perspective – The resume is the first impression that Recruiters are presented of you as a SharePoint professional. That impression is generated by keywords used during search results. Based on the number of keywords that the SharePoint resume contains, the candidate being searched is deemed ‘suitable to contact’

There is a common phrase within the SharePoint community that if you put “SharePoint on your resume and spell it right, you will land a job”

Technical Perspective – SharePoint resumes are viewed as a necessary evil within technical circles similar to Dental visits every 6 months and scheduled vehicle maintenance.
Most SharePoint techies have a native apprehension and mistrust of recruiters staffing for positions.
The prevailing thought is “I can DO the job needed. I just have to get through the process of explaining that to people (management, recruiters) who don’t have the technical know-how but make all the decisions.” As a result, SharePoint resumes are often lacking the basic ingredients that would raise salary expectations and even help the candidate be considered for a Senior position vs. mid-level or even Junior SharePoint roles.

How SharePoint Careers will Help

I am prepping a series of articles entitled Build a Better SharePoint Resume which will standardize the SharePoint Resume from both technical and Recruiter roles and viewpoints.

If you would like to contribute to the Build a Better SharePoint Resume series then contact to voice your opinion.
